In the Twin Cities, we see our fair share of hail throughout the warmer months. Depending on where you park your vehicle, moderate to severe hailstorms can do quite a bit of auto body damage in a matter of minutes. At Minnetonka Collision, we know handling auto body repairs can be a confusing process, especially when insurance claims are involved. Below, we’re breaking down the steps you’ll need to take if your vehicle suffers hail damage, and how we can help expedite the process.
Document the Damage Thoroughly
As soon as the storm subsides and it’s safe to examine your vehicle, head outside to document the damage. You can use your smartphone or a digital camera to take close-up photos of each damaged area and take a panoramic shot of your vehicle, too.
Why snap photos of the dents? Because your insurance company will need evidence of the damage when you file a claim for auto body repair. To provide them adequate proof, be sure to take a variety of photos from multiple different angles to effectively convey the extent of the damage.
Call Your Insurance Company
When filing an auto body repair claim, it’s best to contact your insurance company as soon as possible after your vehicle incurs damage. That said, many vehicle owners are unsure of how to properly file a claim or feel uncomfortable speaking directly with their insurance agent. If that sounds like you, we’re here to take that weight off your shoulders!
At Minnetonka Collision, we aim to make your auto body repairs as smooth and stress free as possible. As an insurance-preferred shop, we’ve built a stellar reputation with a multitude of insurance providers throughout the country. If you prefer, we can help you file your claim when you bring your vehicle in for an estimate.
Comfortable filing your own claim? Great! Be sure to specify Minnetonka Collision Center when your agent inquires about who’ll be performing the repairs.
Ensure the Damage Is Clearly Visible
After you’ve filed your insurance claim, your provider will send an adjuster to examine the severity of the hail damage. Make sure you present a clear view of the dents! If your vehicle is dirty, that may set off a red flag, causing the adjuster to assume the damage was not due to hail. Too, dirt and grime can sometimes conceal the full extent of hail dents, so be sure to wash your vehicle before the adjuster arrives.
Acquire an Auto Body Repair Estimate
After the adjuster examines your vehicle, your insurance company should give you the green light to head to our shop for hail damage repairs. To get your insurance to cover the cost of the work, you’ll need to provide your agent with a cost estimate for the repairs. When you bring your vehicle in, we’ll assess the full scope of the damage and furnish a repair estimate, which may include the following services:
● Parts replacement for severely damaged areas
● Pulling dents out of vehicle panels and smoothing out each surface
● Car touchup paint, if required
Once we’ve built your estimate, we can send it directly to your insurance provider to expedite the process. All that’s left for you to do is schedule an appointment for the actual repairs! When we return your vehicle to you, you’ll never know the hail damage was there.
