How Does Paintless Dent Repair Work?
We use special PDR tools like metal rods and hammers to gently push out the damage from the inside of the car panel. This process allows us to preserve the original factory paint finish of the car and avoids any additional damage during the auto body repair. When you bring your vehicle in for an auto care service, we’ll evaluate the damage and determine what we need to do to get behind the dent with the proper PDR tools. We achieve this by removing any interior panel that is in the way or by removing the headlights/tail lights for easier access.
The next step in the paintless dent repair process is to position what we call the dent removal light. Dent removal lights cover LED lights to give a particular reflection on the panel. PDR lights allow us to peer down into the bottom of a dent and show where the PDR tool is on the inside of the car's panels. We then use the tool to push out the dent one slight push at a time. We continue this process until all the dents are pushed out.
The next step in the dent repair process is to knock down the high spots, crowns, and ridges that stick out from the metal. We use plastic or polished metal tips that don't damage the paint surface. We can also perform this task using a specialized hammer to push the metal back down. We utilize this process of going back and forth, pushing from the inside of the panel and blending the outside back down, until the panel is smoothed out. We buff out any remaining scuffs or scratches with a polishing compound and a mini buffing pad that we attach to a cordless drill.
